There are rules of war

There are rules of war // so that when parents hold the body of their dead child they will know that the fight is fair.

There are rules of war // so that leaders of countries can strategize as though this moment in time is a game of risk.

There are rules of war // because of lines formed by power hungry men who knew they would soon want more.

There are rules of war // formed for lines of men too young yet to know what they have traded their drive for.

There are rules of war // to protect the  bodies of those who stay, but forget the minds and lines of those who flee.

There are rules of war // so that anarchy doesn’t ensue, as if war - instead of care -  is a critical part of governance.

Do not be fooled by the myth that the rules of war keep us safe.

Assailants do not follow rules, they manipulate to follow their motives.

Insatiable power has hair triggers. You will never tread carefully enough.

The rules of war perpetuate war.
